Here you will find an English translation of each one of the dozen answers we got for our little game, so that the ones who don't speak French or German can have some fun too.

The truck is so heavily loaded at the back that its front wheels are lifted up and it's driving on its rear wheels

nichka said...

(Second proposal, even though we are not quite decided if one person can have more than one go....) Mayby this truck is simply a tipper without its back tip or a truck that transports cars and instead of lowering its tip to load and unload things it just raised the front wheels in order to charge, for example an elephant?

Suse said...

It is worshipping the sun? Or, it is discharging its load (a flock of sheep)? Or, this is just a truck simulator for driving lessons without mishaps?

Feli said...

To park-in backwards

Dani und Sebastian said...

Our idea, this is not the "true" front of the truck, it is only welded to the back of it.

Grégory said...

With a rapid analysis of the picture, one can see that the truck has got 2 rear wheel-axle units of 4 wheels each. It is thus completely balanced and stable on its 8 rear-wheels, the shadow seems to confirm this assumption. Moreover, the front-wheels appear much less used than the rear-wheels, which tends to prove their utility...
So, to answer the question: "it is doing nothing, it is just stopped". The question to pose would rather be: but of what use can be these 2 front-appendices (wheels)? A priori, of no use. It is just those insane Thai people who attached this front-“cockpit” (coming from a 4x4 pick-up) to this not very orthodoxe means of transport :-D If my German has not left me completely this is in substance the answer which is given above, isn't it? Anyway, is this a bus? This thing actually transports passengers?

Obviously,
it is a truck for hunting the "dahu" (legendary animal in France, see picture below).
In our mountains in France, the dahuts (a kind of "goat")have left legs that are shorter than their right legs in order to be able to move on the mountainside without any problems (of course, they can only move around the mountain in one direction, with the shorter legs facing the top of the mountain and the longer ones facing the valley). I supose that in your remote mountains, the dahuts only go up, they thus have the front-legs shorter. On the same principle, for hunting for the dahu the trucks have the front-wheels smaller so that the driver is always placed horizontally.

Anne said...

Mayby this truck is called "Herbie" ("Choupette")and is saying "hello" to the truck on the opposite? Or a poor working elephant has gone crazy and is trying to turn over the truck?

Tine said...

In memory of a very hot day in the Grand Canyon, I would guess that a pregnant horse (or rather a pregnant elephant in this case) has collapsed on the road and the truck is trying to get it away.

Erwan said...

Greg was too fast for me. But I will suppose that the front of the truck is its back. That is to say that this artistic addition was made at the back, if not I do not see how the driver drives. Hence this photograph is that of the back of the truck!
The original answer could be: it is a gangsta truck, the driver having put music at its loudest. The truck thus jumps on its wheels, like any vehicle gangsta-made. Moreover, if one looks closely, it is not dirt on the windshield, but smoke inside (reason why one does not see the driver, being smoking a huge joint in the cabin). And undoubtedly you will post us the photograph of the interior, with fur everywhere.

Pete said...

It's a low rider? ...bouncing your wheels up to show other cars how cool you really are not. LOL

Erik said...

My first reaction like many people: it is too heavily loaded. This beeing said, Greg's answer is interesting (I'll skip the case of the dahu). After an in-depth study of the photograph under the microscope, and considering the shade, I would say that the front is really the front (as the mosquito crushed on one of the headlights testifies, yes yes: look well). But what could it transport? An elephant? At the same time, the decoration looks more like that of a bus… Hum, in fact I would go for a truck transporting another truck. Even Google does not help us, not giving relevant answers according to the number plate :)

Michi said...

Of course, it was built like that to ease the load of the front axle! Well, but then it would be difficult to steer... Mayby it was built for extremely steep mountain slopes so that it keeps on the ground with all four wheels when taking extreme bends... but then, I don't see any mountains in the picture... I am sure the solution is that is was built like that in order not to run over anybody with its front wheels (but if it breaks hard it'll definitely tip over!)

Finally, here comes the long awaited answer to our riddle. Some of you have come quite close, in fact the truck is actually loaded with something very heavy, a digger. Rather unspectacular you think? Well, wait for the clue, which is the actual answer to why the truck has its front wheels in the air. Apparently, here they don't know ramps to charge and discharge trucks as we do in civilized countires, and they teach us that they actually don't need them either! Here, the digger just grabs the front of the truck with its shovel, pulls it towards itself and thus raises the front of the truck of the road and pushed the back of the truck to the round. Then, the digger can drive onto the truck without any problems! Halfway, the digger stops, turns around 180 degrees, puts its showel to the ground, pushes hard and thus lifts the back of the truck and descends the front wheels back to the ground! Unfortunately, we only have this one picture of the whole affair because we were walking along the road with our huge backpacks and the time it took to get the camera out of the pack, the truck was already starting to come down again....

AND THE WINNER IS.................
hm, that was a difficult one. All you answers made us laugh so much and they were so creative. But, as we had to decide...
The closest guess was/were: Suse and Nichka, who acutally figured out that something was being charged or discharged from the truck!
And the most creative was/were: M. Durand (David's Dad) and Michi (my chaotic brother) with their idea of the truck being built that way to go up steep mountain slopes! Hilarious!

In any case, it was awesome that you all participated in our litte riddle and that you shared your great ideas with all of us. THANKS a lot! Our game would have been no fun at all without you!
